In Roman times, the city was called Aquincum. For a long time, Budapest was replaced by three separate cities - Pest, Buda, and Obuda (known since 1148). 14th c. Buddha was the capital of the Kingdom of Hungary, from 1541 to 1686. belonged to the Ottoman Empire, from the 18th century. early - the Habsburgs. Since 1867 Buddha is again the capital of the Kingdom of Hungary. 1872 Buda and Obuda on the right bank and Pest on the left bank were merged into one city, Budapest. 1896 the World's Fair was held here.

Romėnų laikais miestas vadinosi Akvinku (lot. Aquincum). Ilgą laiką Budapešto vietoje buvo trys atskiri miestai – Peštas, Buda ir Obuda (žinoma nuo 1148 m.). XIV a. Buda buvo Vengrijos karalystės sostinė, 1541–1686 m. priklausė Osmanų imperijai, nuo XVIII a. pradžios – Habsburgams. Nuo 1867 m. Buda – vėl Vengrijos karalystės sostinė. 1872 m. dešiniajame krante buvę Buda ir Obuda, o kairiajame – Peštas buvo sujungti į vieną miestą – Budapeštą. 1896 m. čia vyko Pasaulinė paroda.
